Portage Service for Seniors Inc. is pleased to announce that we have received funding under the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program for our project “Visits with Nutritious and Delicious Meals”.
This federal grants and contributions program supports projects that are led or inspired by seniors who are making a difference in the lives of others in their communities.

The funds will be used to provide free nutritious meals to low income seniors over the age of 60. This program actively addresses social isolation by providing meals in a congregate setting where possible and/or meals are delivered by a cheerful volunteer. The volunteers are doing more than just delivering a meal. They check-in with the senior to ensure they are okay. If a meal recipient does not answer the door, the next of kin is contacted. Portage Service for Seniors’ main goal is to assist seniors to remain independent and in their own homes. Proper nutrition plus some social contact are essential to assist seniors to remain independent.

Thank you to the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program for the funding support provided to Portage Service for Seniors Inc. It will make a significant difference in the lives of seniors in our community.

Thanks to Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation's generosity through their small grants program, we received a grant to be used for signage for our organization. Thank you so much for your support and for all the amazing work that you do in our community!

The Community Foundation of Portage & District granted us funds to upgrade and replace the kitchen dishwasher to a high temperature, commercial dishwasher, as well as modifying the plumbing and electrical. The brand new commercial dishwasher allows our kitchen staff to prepare meals more efficiently and continue to comply with all safe food handling regulations. Seniors and persons with disabilities are able to access nutritious, delicious, and inexpensive meals with the option of dining in a congregate setting if they choose. The generosity of Community Foundation of Portage and District has allowed us to continue to serve the seniors in our community. Thank you so much!

The Community Foundation of Portage & District granted us funds to purchase the dehydrator and vacuum sealer for our Food Preservation project. As donations are rolling in, this dehydrator has been a tremendous help, and the vacuum sealer's turn is coming (stay tuned for more photos)! Thanks to the CFPD's generosity, we are now processing donations more efficiently and ensuring proper storage and zero waste of donated food. Thank you so much!!

We would like to give a huge THANK-YOU to Community Foundation of Portage and District who has come to the assistance of the local seniors' congregate meal and Meals on Wheels programs by granting us $15,000 to upgrade our kitchen equipment. This allows us to prepare meals more efficiently, continue to comply with all safe food handling regulations, and to process the generous donations of fresh veggies and fruits received from community residents, local grocers, and Fairholme Colony. The generosity of Community Foundation of Portage and District has allowed us to continue to serve the seniors in our community. Take a look at the photos below to see some of the upgrades that this money has allowed us to make in our kitchens.
